adidas Boost Boston Games return for third edition on May 19-20BOSTON, Mass. (April 5, 2018) – The adidas Boost Boston Games is returning to Boston for its third edition on May 19-20. Two world-class track events – one traditional middle-distance meet and a “street meet” on an elevated track in the middle of the city center – will take place on one action-packed weekend, with no shortage of international track and field talent lining up across the two days of competition. On Saturday, May 19, Olympians and world-class middle-distance will descend on the Henry G. Steinbrenner Stadium on the campus of MIT to contest distances from 800 meters to 5000 meters. Seating on the night is open and fans are welcome to stand trackside during the races. The very next afternoon on Sunday, May 20, some of the world’s best sprinters will line up on Charles Street for the “street meet” portion of the adidas Boost Boston Games. Following record-breaking victories at last year’s adidas Boost Boston Games, Olympic 400 meters champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo and world 100 meters champion Tori Bowie will be headlining this year’s street event. Last year, Miller-Uibo set a world best of 21.76 seconds for the straight 200 meters to better Allyson Felix’s seven-year-old record by more than half a second. The Bahamian since added bronze over 200 meters at the IAAF World Championships in London to her tally of international accolades and completed an impressive double of IAAF Diamond League victories in the 200 and 400 meters to close her 2017 campaign. This year, Miller-Uibo will line up over 150 meters at the adidas Boost Boston Games. At last year’s meet, Bowie dominated the distance in a record 16.30 seconds – a time Miller-Uibo will no doubt be chasing – with Bowie focusing on her prime event this year, the 100 meters. The Olympic silver medalist cemented her status among the world’s greatest sprinters when she took 100-meter gold in 10.85 seconds at the IAAF World Championships in London last August. “Over the last two years, the city of Boston has shown great support for the adidas Boost Boston Games and we’re excited to be able to again bring world-class track and field to people’s doorsteps in 2018,” said meet director Mark Wetmore. “Being able to announce two global champions, who both set records at last year’s meet speaks not only for the quality of the field we have assembled this year, but also that of the facilities we are putting up right in Boston’s city center.” “The adidas Boost Boston Games continue to bring together residents, athletes and visitors to be part of this great competition,” said Mayor Martin J. Walsh. “Boston is a city for runners and athletes of all kinds, and I look forward to welcoming the Games to Boston once again this spring.” In the men’s 150 meters, the first pro confirmed to line up on Charles Street is rising US sprint star Noah Lyles. Last year, Lyles clocked the fastest indoor 300-meter time in history before dipping under 20 seconds for 200 meters for the first time in May. Despite an injury-ridden outdoor season, the former world junior champion finished 2017 on a high to win the IAAF Diamond League trophy over 200 meters. US sprint hurdler Christina Manning headlines the 100-meter hurdles field, having just come off an excellent indoor season. Manning won the IAAF World Indoor Tour 60-meter hurdles jackpot in February before going on to win silver at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Birmingham a week later. Lining up against Manning will be fellow American Sharika Nelvis, with whom she provided one of the most entertaining head-to-head rivalries this past indoor season. Also set to compete in the hurdles will be Nadine Visser, who won IAAF World Indoor Championship bronze behind Manning in Birmingham as well as 2015 IAAF World Champion Danielle Williams. Meanwhile, top high school sprinters will be in the spotlight at the adidas Dream 100 on Charles Street on Sunday. General admission is free, while VIP seats just after the finish sell for $125 and come with an adidas shirt, food and beverage and a $50 adidas gift card. The adidas Boost Boston Games, produced by Boston-based Global Athletics and Marketing, Inc., is part of the 2018 USATF Outdoor Championship Series. The “street meet”, which will include highlights of Saturday’s action from the Henry G. Steinbrenner Stadium, will be broadcast live from 1 – 2pm on NBCSN, from 2-3pm on NBC and in full from 1 – 3pm on NBC Sports Gold on May 20.
